Vanessa believes in giving back and building community networks and, as such, finds herself involved in several local organizations and non-profits.

She is a member of the Newmarket Chamber of Commerce and has participated in the Prosperity Roundtable whose goal is to make Newmarket the destination for business and the best place to live in Canada.

She is a member of Green Connections, a networking group dedicated to helping small- and medium-sized businesses go green and increase their sustainability. She is currently on the Board of Directors for Green Connections.

Social Justice and Faith

Vanessa tries to maintain a balanced lifestyle, and her years as a Personal Trainer and Lifestyle Coach have shown her just how important it is to model that for herself, her family, and her spheres of influence.

She has been a long-time advocate for social justice and environmental issues and is currently the Social Services Critic for the Green Party of Canada. She was the federal Candidate in the 2011 election for Newmarket-Aurora and continues to work in her community to build support and awareness.

She is also involved with Transition York Region where she leads the Heart & Soul working group, creating community relationships and helping people move away from a lifestyle addicted to fossil fuels.

Finally, she pays serious attention to her spiritual needs, cultivating her faith through a Friends worship group and regular attendance at the Salvation Army Northridge Community Church.

Vanessa graduated from Queen's University in 1996 with dual degrees in Chemical Engineering and Biology and has worked in alternative health, taught at a private school and worked as a Personal Trainer and Lifestyle Coach.

Her family moved across Canada when she was growing up so she has in-depth knowledge of almost every region in Canada - and loves them all.

She currently lives in Newmarket, Ontario where she is learning about investment real estate and running a household with three teens.
